Using site distribution boards and site power safely
Site distribution boards supply tools and machinery under demanding conditions. Moisture, dust and mechanical stress require a robust design that has been professionally tested.
RCD (residual current device)
For socket circuits on construction sites, an RCD (typically 30 mA) is generally required under the rules for temporary electrical installations (e.g. VDE 0100-704). In addition, test status should be documented in accordance with operational requirements.
IP rating and enclosure
- At least IP44 (splash-proof) for outdoor use
- Sockets with covers and intact seals
- Check enclosure regularly for damage
Cable cross-section and load distribution
Cables must match current and length. Loads should also be distributed across several circuits so that inrush currents from larger consumers remain protected.
