Using herbicides in compliance with the law
Plant protection products may only be used in Germany in accordance with the applicable authorization and application rules. Private gardens have different limits than professional applications.
Who may apply what?
- Private users: only products authorized for non-professional use
- Professional users: depending on the product, observe specialist certification (Sachkundenachweis), operational requirements and authorization
- Municipal/large-area applications: additional approval and specialist rules may apply
Basic rules for the home garden
- Use only authorized products with a matching area of use
- Maintain distances from water bodies and non-target areas
- Observe dosage, waiting period and protective measures according to the label
Alternatives and integrated approach
Mechanical methods (hoeing, brushing, thermal methods such as flame weeding only on suitable surfaces and in compliance with local fire protection rules), mulching and site-appropriate planting reduce the need for products. This also lowers the risk of misapplication.
