Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 16 Years with Gift Box 43% Vol The Lagavulin distillery on the Scottish island of Islay produces one of the country's best-known whiskeys. The Lagavulin 16 Years is characterized by its intense, smoky taste, which is characterized by the peat of the moors and the iodine of the sea. In addition to notes of sea salt, rich fruits and Lapsang Souchong tea, Lagavulin is considered one of the smokiest whiskeys in the world. Lagavulin is made in a picturesque bay overlooking castle ruins and uses water from Lochan Sholum and Loch Schonum, which gives the whiskey its characteristic delicate taste. Lagavulin goes through one of the slowest distillation processes of all Islay whiskeys, which can take up to nine hours. The history of Lagavulin dates back to 1742, when illegal distillation took place. The distillery has officially existed since 1816 and became known in the 19th century with the neighboring Laphroaig distillery. Over the years, the distillery has been modernized again and again and is now part of Diageo. For a long time, Lagavulin's product range was limited to 16-year-old bottlings; only recently have some original bottlings been added. All products are strongly peaty and smoky, typical of Islay whiskeys.
